Well hello out there! Welcome to the blog. This is the very first official post at bornhouseliving.com, so this a going to be a special dedication to some of the peeps in my life:)
First, my hubby of twenty-three years. Without his love, support, and acceptance for my creative madness, lord knows I probably wouldn’t be married! LOL!
Second, my parents. I have truly been blessed to have been surrounded by creative people my whole life. Growing up in “Artsy-Fartsy” land has been a blast:) Thank you Mom & Papa Dave, for tolerating my experiments, and allowing me to paint the back porch in “fun colors.”
Lastly, to all the “pbkids” (Panera) at Cafe #4633. I’ve spent the past two years of my life with these great people. Their daily dose of encouragement has meant more to me than they could possibly know. May God bless each of you with great health, and may you all dare to live your dreams! I love you all, and miss you very much! Mama Pbread did it!
Now, on to the good stuff.
So a little over a year ago, I discovered this new paint. Some of you may be familiar with it. It’s called ASCP (Annie Sloan Chalk Paint). And due to this discovery, I officially have been diagnosed with OPD…OBSESSIVE PAINT DISORDER.
Many hours were spent practicing with this new paint. It had consumed me. I was painting everything in my path. If it didn’t move, it got painted. You’ll be glad to know though, that the dogs and my husband survived:) The day finally came though, when I felt like I was comfortable enough to paint that first “special piece” for my own home.
Never in my wildest dreams did I ever expect to find such a treasure. I was originally thinking more along the lines of a small side table, or perhaps an ottoman that needed a little TLC. NOPE! I walk through the doors of a second-hand store, and BAM! There she was in all her fabulous glory. The largest, most ornate, gold Rocco framed mirror I have ever seen in my life! And of course, it was being displayed above an antique, Fleur Di Lis carved buffet. Now ya know I had to buy both:) So I loaded them up, brought them home, and the rest is history!
Here are some of the “before” pics. Please excuse the messy garage. If I would’ve known a year ago that these would make it online, I would have made things a little more tidy.
The other day I saw a pic on Pinterest that read, “Some girls are just born with glitter in their veins.” I about died laughing. That would be me. I get completely distracted by the “bright and shiny.” Anyhoo, you can clearly see how ornate and beautiful that mirror is. She’s just so lovely…
And here are the “After pics.”
I’ve been offered a very pretty dollar for that mirror, but no matter what, I just can’t part with it. You see to me, that was the beginning. The beginning of what has shaped my views on what my own home could actually look like without having to save our money for a thousand years! It was also the beginning of B.O.R.N HOUSE LIVING.com. Beautiful. Old. Reclaimed. New.
I hope those of you out there reading this first post, have enjoyed it as much as I have writing it! I hope to see you again sometime soon.
